Composting toilets have gained significant attention in recent years, aligning with the growing global emphasis on sustainable living practices. Among these eco-friendly alternatives, Treebog Compost Toilets stand out as innovative and environmentally conscious solutions.

The Tree-bog compost toilet earns its name due to the remarkable phenomenon that human compost, also known as 'humanure,' (Book Humanure Handbook great read) proves to be an excellent fertiliser for trees. Consequently, it's not astonishing that trees in close proximity to composting toilets exhibit remarkable vigor in their growth.

What is a treebog?

A tree bog is a type of compost toilet that harnesses the unique benefits of moisture and nutrient-hungry trees to enhance its functionality.

Unlike a traditional compost toilet, a tree bog should never need emptying. 

In essence, it involves encircling the compost toilet structure with two densely planted rows of osier or biomass willow cuttings. These strategically planted trees not only contribute to the purification of waste as they thrive but also serve as a containment barrier for organic waste, effectively preventing the spread of diseases. What's truly remarkable is that, in the process, this living wall of willow actively contributes to soil creation.

As the osier or biomass willow cuttings flourish around the compost toilet, they play a dual role. First and foremost, they act as a natural filtration system, absorbing excess moisture and nutrients from the waste within the composting chamber. This not only aids in waste decomposition but also promotes a healthier, more efficient composting process. Simultaneously, the closely planted willow forms a protective barrier, containing the organic waste within the designated area, preventing any potential contamination or dispersion.
